PHILADELPHIA SLICK ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2010 TOUR AND NEW EP: LOOKS FORWARD AT FIVE  YEAR ANNIVERSARY

APRIL 12, 2010 (Philadelphia, PA) — Five years into their career, hip-hop group, Philadelphia Slick is moving forward in 2010 with a two-plus week summer tour planned with the release of their new EP, Everything’s Game.

At the five year anniversary of a group, its easy to look back at what has been accomplished: band of the year awards (Philadelphia City Paper Reader’s Choice 2008 and Philly Car Share Sound Clash Winner 2007), an ever-expanding fan base, packed crowds, and two albums with radio play.  Philly Slick chooses to look forward.

They will continue to push boundaries while on tour and break down more barriers in music with the release of Everything’s Game which delivers social commentary that reflects the current mood in Philadelphia and the rest of the country.  Fans will welcome the new EP as a progression of what they have come to love about Slick.

“Every once in a while a new breed of hip-hop emerges resulting in a genre-defying creation of epic proportions. Philadelphia Slick has done this not once, but twice. With Oil and Culture Industry, Philadelphia Slick has managed to create two complimentary albums that have proven to capture positive attention everywhere from old-school hip-hop critics to the indie hipsters across the board and even over to the jazz and classical scenes.” -entertonement.com
Recorded at Bobby Eli’s Studio E (Eli has mixed platinum records for Luther Vandross, The Spinners, and many more) in Upper Darby PA, Everything’s Game is a six song trip through Philly Slick’s current mind state: uptempo songs about art, politics, and music.  The lead single, “Everything Must Go” is a critique of current advertising tactics, “That’s It,” concerns itself with what happens when independent art becomes recapitulated by our society, while “Hit Song” – the lightest of the six tracks – features a jazzy groove reminiscent of early 1990s hip-hop.

In many ways, Everything’s Game is a departure from Slick’s first two efforts: the horns and strings are back, but as a supporting role to the tight, live rhythm section.  The EP is darker too, characteristic of a city that finds itself, like much of 21st century America, broke and on tough times.

“A representative for the underground hip-hop in Philadelphia, Philly Slick offers a refreshing sound to today’s cheesy, repetitive hooks in the hip-hop industry.” – aroundphilly.com
